Pit Captain
Privacy Policy
Last updated: 2026‑08‑06
Pit Captain is an AI race‑engineer companion for Gran Turismo 7, operated by Pit Captain, LLC ("Pit Captain", "we", "us"). This policy explains what the app accesses, what leaves your device, and your choices. Plain language, no surprises.
What the app accesses
- Your local network. The app reads Gran Turismo 7 telemetry that your PlayStation broadcasts on your home Wi‑Fi (UDP port 33740). Your PlayStation's IP address is used only to receive that stream and is stored on your device.
- Race telemetry. While a session is running, the app forwards the raw GT7 telemetry stream to the Pit Captain cloud so the engineer can analyze your driving and speak callouts back to you in near real time.
- Your account. You sign in with Apple, which gives us a stable, anonymous account identifier (and, only if you choose to share it, your name/email relay). This ties your profile, lap times, garage, and group membership to you. You may optionally link a Discord account for group voice.
- Profile you enter. Driver name, engineer voice, skill level, units, which callouts you want, and the parts you mark as owned per car.
What we do with it
- Telemetry is processed in the cloud to generate coaching audio and to record your lap times and mapping progress. Lap times, profile, garage, and group membership are stored so the app works across sessions.
- We do not sell your data, show ads, or use third‑party advertising or analytics trackers.
Microphone & voice
- Only on the map, during a race. While you're viewing the track map during an active race, the app listens for the wake phrase "Hey Captain" so you can ask questions hands‑free. It is never always‑on and is never used in the background — leaving the map, muting the mic, or ending the race stops it.
- On‑device transcription. Your speech is converted to text on your device using Apple's speech recognition. Only the text of your question is sent to answer it — your voice audio never leaves your phone and is not stored.
What we do NOT do
- We do not access your camera, photos, contacts, or location. The microphone is used only when you ask a question during a race (see above).
- We do not track you across other apps or websites.
- We do not send your PlayStation's IP address anywhere outside your own network; it stays on your device.
Beta sign‑ups
If you request beta access on our website, we store the name, email, and details you submit solely to send you a TestFlight invitation and related beta communication. We don't sell or share it, and you can ask us to delete it at any time using the contact below.
Third parties
- Cloud hosting (Fly.io) processes telemetry and stores your profile/times.
- Apple provides Sign in with Apple and TestFlight, subject to Apple's privacy policy.
- Discord is used for optional group voice and community membership, subject to Discord's own privacy policy.
- Text‑to‑speech is used to generate the engineer's voice from callout text.
Pit Captain is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by Sony Interactive Entertainment, Polyphony Digital, or Gran Turismo.
Data retention & deletion
Your cloud data is kept while your account is active. You can delete your account and all associated cloud data from within the app (Account → Delete account), or contact us to request export or deletion.
Children
Pit Captain is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect their data.
Changes
We may update this policy; material changes will be noted with a new "Last updated" date.
